JEROEN SEARCH

... a brief biography

AT THE AGE OF 15, JEROEN SEARCH [Jeroen Schrijvershof] STARTED DJ-ING AT A FRIENDS PLACE, ENDING UP BUYING HIMSELF A SET OF DECKS SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. DURING THE EARLY 90S JEROEN MADE CONTACT WITH THE EVOLVING HOUSE MUSIC AND GOT INTO IT IMMEDIATELY. MEETING DJ MISJAH IN 1993, HE HAD HIS FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO TRANSLATE HIS THOUGHTS INTO MUSIC AND THIS COOPERATION RESULTED IN SOME OF THE FIRST X-TRAX RECORDS RELEASES [at that time his alias was DJ Groovehead].

Because of the strong desire to release his own musical ideas, the record label "Search" was then founded. The "Search" imprint was a tool to express his artistic point of view . . .

Strongly influenced by the taste of JEFF MILLS, ROBERT HOOD and the DETROIT SOUND, he developed his own unique recognizable sound, which is best to be described as cutting edge minimal Techno. By the use of a lot of hardware in the studio and recording the tracks in one take, then doing all the edits live, it is surely not the most usual way of recording nowadays, but doing this as long as he has been producing music, Jeroen got quite skilled in it.

Always trying to get the maximum out of a minimum set up of equipment means pushing yourself to be creative and never give up. One of the highlights in his musical career was the release on Jeff Mills` 6277/AXIS RECORDS, called "New Reality EP" [solo project] and the "Martian Mystique" as COUNTERPART.

In 2003 Jeroen teamed up with Dimi Angélis and together they developed COUNTERPART as a joint project, also creating various releases under the names Dimi & Jeroen. They decided to start performing as a live act, but doing this in a different way you usually see currently. It is a combination between hardware and a laptop. No complete tracks are prepared - the tracks are created on stage - so every set has its own flavor.

In 2009 the highly acclaimed 3x12" on Figure SPC was released and got supported by many artists. This eventually lead to his first solo live set at BERGHAIN Berlin. Jeroen is also doing his solo live sets in the same way as in COUNTERPART, so he uses a lot of hardware. Besides some previously released tracks, they are full of exclusive material. Preparing a new set for every gig keeps things special and really works on stage.

Jeroen Saerch´s releases appear(ed) on several labels, such as: AXIS/ Mission6277 - Audiosculpture - Cache - Central Special Projects - Coincidence Records - Figure SPC – Grammar – Ion - LL Records - Molecular Recordings – Mrec - Outland Records – Pohjola – Search - Smallville Records - Underground Liberation.
